Philosophy of Education

The purpose of Land O’ Lakes Christian School is to assist parents in the training of their children to conform to the image of Jesus Christ through a balanced spiritual, academic, and extra-curricular educational program.

A Christian philosophy of education must have a biblical perspective on man’s origin, his nature, and his fall. Man was created in the image of God to rule on the earth and to manifest God’s image in creative and procreative work (Genesis 1:26-27). However, man’s relationship to God was severed when Adam sinned (Romans 5:12). God has provided a means of restoring man’s relationship to Him through the redemptive work of His Son, Jesus Christ. Anyone who accepts this salvation by faith in Christ is given new life by the washing of regeneration and renewing by God’s Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5). Before salvation, man (although still capable of creative and procreative work) is in a fallen state: spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1), in rebellion against God (Romans 2), and totally depraved (Romans 3:9-18).

All that is taught in Christian education must be theocentric (God-centered) rather than anthropocentric (man-centered). The Word of God is the source of all truth (John 17:17). Unregenerate man understands God’s natural revelation through His common grace, but suppresses the truth (Romans 1:18). The child of God understands God’s Word through the illuminating work of God’s Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 2:11). The primary responsibility of educating children is given by God to the parent. The Christian school acts as an extension of the home for the purpose of educating the child. Christian education through the home, church, and school must seek to establish in each student an eternal value system that is derived from the Word of God. Parents and educators must aim to “present every man perfect in Christ Jesus” (Colossians 1:28). At LOLCS, evangelistic efforts are put forth to make sure that all students have a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ so that the teaching of spiritual truths may have a firm foundation. This is followed by instruction in right thinking, good conduct, and clean living in the light of the principles of God’s Word.

Character training is an important element in Land O’ Lakes Christian School. Teaching and requiring students to obey is basic to character training. The teacher is the authority in the classroom. Discipline is administered firmly but fairly. The eventual development of an inner self-discipline (deciding to do what is right) is essential to the emotional, physical, social, and spiritual well-being of the student. To obey, to do right, to love God and country, and to always measure one’s attitudes against the principles laid out in the Scriptures are practices that LOLCS strives to instill in each student, thus equipping him for his role in God’s plan for his life and for his proper place in society. The academic program, through the traditional approach, emphasizes the mastery of the fundamental blocks of material necessary for satisfactory achievement and stresses the acquisition of facts and concepts in the various areas of study, leading to the development and exercise of the powers of reasoning. The traditional system of education strengthens the mind, builds character, encourages competition, and teaches the value of living under a free enterprise system of government.

Methods of teaching proven to be effective are utilized with a constant search for better methods. Realizing the differences in innate abilities, teachers encourage and expect all students to do their best. The goal of Land O’ Lakes Christian School is to produce graduates who demonstrate academic excellence and portray godly character in their Christian service and vocation. The ultimate objective of Christian education is to glorify God (I Corinthians 10:31) through the teaching of God’s truth to the end that God’s Spirit might use it to edify and mature His people.

To assist parents in their God-given responsibilities of educating their children through Godly character and academic excellence, and to partner with the church in its biblical mandate to evangelize the world, edify the body of Christ, and equip Christians for service.

Statement of Faith

  • 2 Timothy 3:16; John 10:35; Psalms 89:34; Hebrews 6:18; 2 Peter 3:16

    The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, the written record of His supernatural revelation of Himself to man, absolute in its authority, complete in its revelation, final in its content, and without error in its statements. The sixty six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and divine revelations of God to man. The Authorized King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by and in the school and its ministries.

  • Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; John 14:9, 10, 26; 1 Timothy 3:16; 1 John 5:7; Genesis 1:2; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19

    The Godhead

We believe there is one God, eternally existent, creator of the heaven and earth, who exists in three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each co eternal in being, co identical in nature, co equal in power and having the same attributes and perfections.

  • Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; Luke 1:35; John 1:1, 2, 14; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Galatians 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-8

The Person and Work of Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is fully God, who became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man.

  • John 16:7-11; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 6:19; 1 Corinthians 12:12-24; Ephesians 1:13-14; Ephesians 4:30; Titus 3:5

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and that He is the supernatural agent in regeneration and baptizing all believers into the body of Christ. The baptism of the Holy Spirit takes place at the moment a person receives Christ as Savior and is the act of placing the believer into the body of Christ. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not a second work of grace, nor is it manifested by unusual signs such as speaking in tongues. The moment a person receives Christ as his Savior, immediately the Holy Spirit indwells that person and he is sealed until the day of redemption.

    Acts 2:6; 1 Corinthians 13:8-10; 1 Corinthians 14:21-22; 2 Corinthians 12:7-10; James 5:14-16

We believe that the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing, were temporary and ceased upon the completion of God's Word at the book of Revelation.

  • Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16; Romans 11:6; Collosians 2:13; Titus 3:5; Romans 3:22; John 1:12; 1 Peter 1:18-19

    Salvation

We believe man is saved by undeserved mercy through faith, and nothing of man enters into his salvation it is a free gift. Man's efforts, regardless of how good or well intended, before or after salvation, have nothing to do with it.

    I Timothy 2:4; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Peter 3:9; John 6:64-65; Acts 10:34; 1 Corinthians 1:21; Ephesians 1:5-14; Romans 8:29-30; Romans 9:30-32

We believe God is absolutely sovereign and in His sovereignty gave man a free will to accept or reject the salvation that He has provided. It is God's will that all would be saved and that none should perish. God foreknows, but does not predetermine any man to be condemned. God permits man's destiny to depend upon man's choice.

  • John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 38-39; 1 Peter 1:4-5; Ephesians 4:30; 1 Corinthians 3:11-17; 11:30-32; Hebrews 12:5-11

    The Eternal Security of Believers

We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever; they possess eternal life and are therefore secure for all eternity; being justified by faith, sanctified by God, and sealed by the Holy Spirit, they cannot lose their salvation.

  • Psalms 89:3-4; Daniel 2:31-45; Zechariah 14:4-11; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Revelations 3:10; 19:11-16; 20:1-6

    The Second Advent of Christ

We believe in the personal, imminent return of Christ who will rapture His church prior to the seven year tribulation period. This return will be in the air and Christ will be returning FOR His saints. At the end of the tribulation, Christ will visibly and bodily return WITH His saints to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom, which was promised to the nation of Israel.

  • Genesis 1-2; Exodus 20:11; Collosians 1:16-17; John 1:1-3

    Creation

We believe that God created the universe in six literal days (24 hour periods). We reject evolution and theistic evolution as unscriptural theories of origin.
